The year of the Ox started interestingly for Five Cents Ten Cents! If you have been visiting my blog, you would’ve realised that it was down on 26 January 2009 which happened to be the first day of the Lunar New year! If you were superstitious, you would think that it was an inauspicious start for the blog.
On the contrary, it was an opportunity for me to do something that I had planned, i.e. to change web hosting from 3ix to Pozhub. The reason was that I had been having intermittent issues with 3ix that caused my blog to be affected once in 2-3 months. The last problem was quite serious, so I took the outage to migrate my blog over to Pozhub.
The best laid plans of mice and men
I had expected a smooth transition from my old web host to the new one. Unfortunately, that was not to be the case. Even though I had installed my backup of MySql database of posts, comments and other information, the recovery from the archive proved to be challenging. As a result, I had to repost using the email copy of my posts from my gmail which was my secondary backup. A less elegant solution but took more than 10 times the effort versus a simple backup from archive MySQL database.
The morale of this story is to TEST THE BACKUP which I didn’t do when I first set-up the WordPress backup plugin.
Now that I’ve finished uploading the old posts from about a year back, I can concentrate on writing new posts again.
Looking back at my various posts, I realise my strategy should be to go for depth rather than breadth, i.e. to post more in-depth articles and to have slightly less frequent posts, say 3-4 posts a week instead of almost daily posting
Another strategy is to solicit more feedback from you my dear reader and to encourage more comments for my posts.
I’ve also taken this chance to organise my posts into the series on retirement, blog monetisation, book reviews, total money makeover as well as your money or your life. Do give them a read if this is your first time encountering these posts.
I wish you a very happy Lunar New Year of the Ox.
Be well and prosper.
