Saving money by asking about HR benefits

Many of us work towards our financial freedom. We sometimes forget that our organisations may provide certain human resources benefits that can help us save money in financial freedom.
Let’s explore what other cost-cutting measures we can make use of to help us achieve more savings towards your financial freedom.
Insurance
The organisation that I work for provides for group term insurance for death or total permanent disability for staff as well as their spouses. The term insurance typically covers up to 12 x the monthly salary of the staff or up to $100,000.
The premiums could be cheaper due to economies of scale or due to subsidies by the organisation itself. Some of these policies may even be portable, i.e. you can still keep the policy even if you leave the organisation though you may need to pay a higher premium for this type of policies.
You may want to consider such policies to help supplement your protection needs.
Free Passes to Places of Interest
My organisation also provides for free corporate pass to the Singapore Bird Park. Other organisations may provide free gym passes to those big gym chains such as California Fitness etc. You can enquire about such benefits as sometimes HR departments may not be overly proactive in promoting these benefits.
If you are fortunate to be working in an organisation that has its own gym or other sports facilities, you should also consider making use of it and asking your HR department about it. After all, you are entitled to these if you are an employee of the organisation. How would you know if you don’t ask or surf the company intranet or talk to colleagues to find out more?
What other benefits do organisations provide?

Be well and prosper.
